What Do You Get?

This is a technology demo for a Quake-like game engine.

Game has 1 level (similar to e1m1 in size) with various gameplay elements (doors, platforms, secrets, triggers…), 1 monster type and 2 difficulty levels.

Demonstrates that a fully textured 3d world can run at 30fps on the yellow device!

Demo may or may not develop into a full game - stay tuned for more...

Note: game performance for Rev A is untested - it may help to get to settings and pick the "low" texture setting

Looks super cool :) It is very similar looking like quake - is it like some port of the engine running this?

I really wish it would control with just the d-pad though, using the crank to rotate is really awkward for me at least.

Be super cool to see what you come up with here, looks like a really cool start!

thanks!

not a port per se - using the same rendering principles and level files, but the core rendering/game engine is my own.

pretty cool looking, I hope this gets a full version soon.

Can I just download this ON my Playdate?

(+1)

you can totally upload via USB!

(I mention sideload as it is documented and easier to manage versions)

Cool. Didn’t want to officially try to publish?

Looking forward to checking it out!

first it’s not a full game, second not wanting to sell a game totally based of open source assets…

Ohhhhh k heh. Well excited anyway!

Wait, this requires Playdate to actually run the game?

Or am I missing something in the files?

totally - runs only on device

can you elaborate? the game runs totally fine (at least on Rev B) on device.

Just try to upload it with sideload, and it will tell you that not pdx file. In the emulator that say also same, it can't find pdz, i have both revisions to be sure it not works right with current file. Maybe you have a different pdx no that was downloaded from that page?

just tried and got it working just fine - it should report in sideload page:

Date: 02/22/26 07:32:52
Version: 2026.02.21

not sure I appreciate the "that's not real" btw
