this is great! small bug on browser (like, tiny): trying to pause on the loading screen messes with the palette, but only for the loading screen. its a fantastic port, and I'm happy for it :)

thanks - bug is known and reported to pico8 maintainer.

I love the original level design here, great job!

Hi, great work, incredible <3
Please will you share the source code to BBS ?
I really want to use it on my TV console please.
Thanks a lot

Hey, that's great! Congratulations!

Is POOM available at pico-8 bbs?

(+1)

i dunno how long you've been working on this but man... get yourself some sleep

did you make some old consoles port?

hum - no - low level assembly is not my type of fun!

Oh, i have a pocket go and i would have liked to play poom on it. Even because my mac won't open the file and don't know why :(

Hey, found out about this by mistake when I wanted to search something on my phone. Tried it and I was in love with it. What you created it a masterpiece and it just amazing. From sprites to secrets, everything. Over all nice job and keep it up :D

(+1)

This definitely scratched an itch(excuse the pun)for me.. Great job!!

(+3)

The port is great in every aspect, usually pico-8 games like this are called demakes, but that's definitely not about this one, it's like almost the same and even better in some moments. Amazing job, keep going!

(+4)

Thanks - happy that it feels "genuine" at some point :]

(+1)

This is great!

(+2)

this is just like the og doom

very good !!!

absolutely awesome!

(+1)

this game is over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(+3)

This is an amazing port, a technical masterpiece! I love your work with PICO-8. I hope to see more projects from you in the future.

(+2)

thanks!

have you checked https://paranoidcactus.itch.io/ games or mine already? hours of fun await!

This is incredible. I'd pay you for a tutorial.

POOM XD

(+1)

Really cool. A huge pile of work! 5/5

(+1)

How to add the support button

This was fantastic!

(+1)

this is so well made! it really must have taken a long time to make

(+3)

Thanks!

time to complete: about 5 months (part time) for the engine, 3 months (again part time) for graphics

(+1)

Amazing Recreation. The Graphics are stunning -5 for the small bugs, but other than that, best game I've played.

95/100

(1 edit) (+2)

I played it for youtube, it's surprisingly good! Looks stunning, original levels, and plays great!

I did have some issues with weapon swap plus the strange "player two" movement keys when using mouse

(+2)

nice video!

couple of "answers": 16 colors (yes), blue rectangle with a red middle *is* a button :], weapon wheel can be summoned using middle mouse click

(+2)

When I saw this while looking for games I assumed it was going to be a sidescroller or a top-down shooter, the fact that you actually translated so much of the gameplay so seamlessly blows my mind. Props! This is incredibly impressive stuff!!

(+1)

Feature suggestion: when the standalone files are run on a system where PICO-8 is also installed, it uses the control settings from PICO-8. On my system, they're bound to WASD + J and L. I bet many others also use WASD. Is it possible to add a third controls layout where player 1 d-pad corresponds to strafing, not turning, so using the keyboard and mouse in such conditions becomes much easier?

(+1)

good point - will look if possible

(+2)

Don't know if you're interested in bug report, but I was replaying some levels on higher difficulty today, and got a crash as the last level was loading. Screenshot here:

(1 edit) (+1)

always interested in bug reports!

what was the sequence?

  • ctrl-r the game?
  • launch from menu?
  • launch from previous level?

Launched into "Halls of Eternal Pain", selected 'Hurt Me Plenty', completed that level, and the game auto-launched into 'Sanctum of Torment'. I may have been clicking impatiently while it was loading :) Don't know if that would have had any effect.

thanks - will try to repro

(+2)

Fixed in 1.2

(+2)

Woohoo!

(+1)

92.5 of 100 Points! -4 points cuz’ sometimes I can see trough the walls and -3.5 points cuz’ it’s starting too hard...

92/100 Points: very great game

(+2)

that's kinda pog ngl

it is just the first room right? or am i missing something. Either way, this is by far the most impresive Pico-8 project Ive ever seen! game and others!

(1 edit) (+1)

not sure to understand - the game has 6 levels, you need to find the exit.

I think my problem is I dont understand how to open door. can you explain please?

(+1)

(+2)

oh so im just a straight up idiot? wow :shame:

(+2)

i'm impressed beyond words at this and don't have any idea how to convey my immense satisfaction

i've played some great pico-8 games before but this is just insane

(+3)

It won't open on my mac :(

Same problem

exquisitely satisfying

Wow. So smooth and fast and fun. Thank you.

(+1)

Fist/punch is extremely strong

And that's a good thing :P

I literally don't know how you were able to do this in PICO-8, let alone make it incredibly satisfying to play, but goddamn color me impressed!

This game is amazing. That last boss was really hard tho

(+2)

Loved that you chose a subset of monsters and weapons. It seems they were chosen to differentiate encounters in the most meaningful ways. Excellent sense of progression. Would greatly enjoy playing an original adventure in this engine in the future, if you decide to use it again. Congrats on this excellent release!

(+1)

Thanks! And yes, given the limited sprite space & time, we had to pick "interesting" monsters, glad you liked the cast!

so i opened this and my spotify started playing rip and tear, yes.

Mind-blowing achievement! How is this even possible?
